Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux's separation came out as a shocker, but reports say the two had met on Valentine's Day for the last time, despite splitting in December.

It can be remembered that the power couple announced their split a day after Feb. 14. According to a PEOPLE's source, Aniston and Theroux met during the late hours of that day to talk about the announcement.

"They decided together that they would make the announcement the next day. Justin flew on a private jet to L.A. to see Jen one last time," the insider added.

The agreement seemed to be a last-minute choice, however, as Aniston initially wanted to keep things private for the longest time. The source revealed that the 49-year-old Horrible Bosses star and Theroux were hard to reach a consensus about announcing their fallout.

Apparently, Aniston did not want the attention to be shifted into their split, but as established, the opposite has been happening. Prior to all of the hullabaloos, the Friends star celebrated her birthday noticeably without her beau at her side.

Many questioned this, as Aniston held her birthday with close friends, including actress Courteney Cox, Kristin Hahn, Andrea Bendewald, and Leigh Kilton-Smith on Feb. 11 in Malibu, California, obviously Theroux-less. The source further divulged that the We're the Millers actress wanted to keep things "low-key," so people would not have an inkling about their decision.

However, it was not the same for Theroux, who wanted to live life and move on after the announcement.

"But that's not Justin's style. He wanted to make the announcement so he can live his life," the insider claimed.

Aniston, Theroux Split

The couple had been together for seven years before getting married in 2015. That was why the announcement made on Feb. 15 through the actress's publicist Stephen Huvane came as a surprising news. According to the statement, Aniston and Theroux mutually made the decision.

"We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship," the couple said and added that they already made the announcement themselves to avoid rumors and misleading news reports.

Aside from this, the couple narrated that they had separated in December last year but did not mention the reason for their split. Meanwhile, people started speculating about the split last year after Theroux had often been spotted without Aniston in New York.
