It is never easy to learn that a loved one has a health condition, especially if they are fighting a deadly disease.

Colton Haynes's Heartbreaking News

On Tuesday, Feb. 20, Arrow and Teen Wolf actor Colton Haynes posted a heartbreaking message on Instagram to his 6,400,000 followers. Haynes revealed that his mother, Dana, was battling a deadly illness.

"After multiple testing, we found out she actually has advanced cirrhosis of the liver. A diagnosis that can be cured with a liver transplant...however...that bad news I mentioned before was that she doesn't have that much time to wait for a new liver," Haynes wrote in a conversation that was transcribed by People Magazine through Yahoo! Entertainment.

Haynes continued to mention that the doctors who treated his mother recommended to the actor and his family that they focus on her improving the quality of her life instead of the quantity of life. According to the New York Daily News, Haynes stated that his mother turned to a surprising attribute for her strength.

"Even when her liver and kidney doctors gave us the worst news you could get, my mom looked at us and said, 'The best thing to do in these situations is to laugh.' She then chuckled so loud you could hear it to the other end of the hospital. That's my mom. She's funny, bull-headed, & strong," Haynes told the New York Daily News.

Rally Time

To make sure that his mother gets the proper medical attention, Hayes revealed that his brother, Clinton, set up a GoFundMe page to help fund their mother's in-home hospice care. He announced that not only did they meet their original goal of $10,000, it was also able to bring a full-time nurse to look after their mother. Haynes revealed that they would be able to pay for Amity Home Care in Hemet, California, to take care of their mom.

"Every single penny we raise over the goal from today on will be donated to the American Liver Foundation to help others who are going through this horrible disease. It would mean the world to my family and I if we could make a massive donation to this incredible organization," wrote Haynes.

Haynes's friends, family, and fans took to Instagram to support the actor during this trying time. Several of Haynes's longtime friends including Serena Williams and Tyler Blackburn left encouraging messages stating how proud they were that Haynes was sharing his story.

In Happier Times

Before Haynes was watching his mother fight for her life, he had one of the most memorable years of his career and personal life.

Arrow fans were excited when show producers Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle announced that Haynes would be returning to the long-running The CW superhero drama on Dec. 13, 2017. He would reprise his role as Arsenal (Roy Harper).

Haynes married husband Jeff Haynes-Leatham, who is an honorary member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan due to Leatham's constant professional interaction with the family. Jenner even officiated the couple's wedding on Oct. 27, 2017. The couple was engaged in March 2017 as Leatham proposed to Haynes while they were attending a Cher concert.
