Saturday Night Live comedienne and actress Kristen Wiig could be the next Wonder Woman villain as the science fiction movie is set to film its second installment.

Reports have it that Warner Bros and DC Comics are in the talks to cast Wiig for the role of Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2. Wiig has Oscar nominations in her name and a stellar recognition for a cowriting stint in Bridesmaids.

Wonder Woman 2 will be Wiig's first villain role in case the producers have finalized the casting lineup. The first installment, which was released in May 2017, was a phenomenal hit, earning $821.9 million on all theaters combined.

"Wonder Woman is the first major studio superhero film directed by a woman, and it shows in a number of subtle, yet important ways," read the AMC Burbank film review.

"As skimpy as Gadot's outfits may get, for example, Jenkins' camera never leers or lingers gratuitously — Diana is always framed as an agent of power, rather than its object," it continued.

On The Cold War

A teaser poster of Wonder Woman 2 shows Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins in what appears to be a Cold War setting. There are no specific details on Wiig's role yet. However, rumors have it that the incarnation of Cheetah is an archeologist who is given special animal powers by Urzkartaga.

The production houses are yet to decide which version of Cheetah will be portrayed in the second sequel. Since its first release in 1943, Cheetah has four different versions. For Wonder Woman 2, producers will have to choose between Deborah Domaine and Barbara Ann Minerva renditions.

Other Characters

Aside from Cheetah, whose tragic backstory will lead her to fight Diana Prince, fans are looking to see other characters who will join the cast to tell a more compelling story.

One option is Circe, a sorceress whose power is a strong as Diana, making her a promising rival in the next movie. Doctor Psycho could also be an alternative especially with his telepathic powers that can control minds, dreams, and levitate objects.

A spinoff of Amanda Waller, who created the Suicide Squad, is believed to bring dynamism into Diana Prince's character. Critics said that fans who root for women empowerment would be thrilled to see another female character bound to save the world.

Another interesting character addition would be Zeus, father of Wonder Woman. The first movie briefly showed the Greek god in reference to the origin of Diana Prince's alter ego. Film enthusiasts believe that putting Zeus back in the storyline would further elaborate Wonder Woman's history.

Wonder Woman 2 is set to be shown in theaters on Dec. 13, 2019.
