Falling Skies' Hal Mason (Drew Roy) is having a rough season 3, what between the alien probe in his mind and his new, generally evil nature.

Hal came face to face with his veritable alter-ego during last week's "At All Costs." Looking at himself in the mirror, Hal is tormented by a far creepier, completely evil side of himself.

Drew Roy talked to Entertainment Weekly's 2nd Watch about playing both sides of his character.

"The interesting thing about this season is that you're seeing Hal [after] the legs have literally been cut out form under him," Roy said of Hal. "Everything that he has used to be a man, he's no longer able to use and that's causing all these different troubles. So he's doubting himself and the whole reason he is upset at this point is because he needs [Tom Mason (Noah Wyle)] to be able to talk to him and figure out what needs to go on but he's gone."

With Hal in such a vulnerable state, 'Evil Hal' has a chance to wreak havoc on 'Good Hal.'

"He's having this moment where he's at the lowest of his lows and so I felt like what would be a better way to just completely manipulate that character than [to have] someone that is extremely confident and manipulative," Roy explained to 2nd Watch. "That's where the 'Evil Hal' side came from. He knew all his weaknesses and just was pushing each one of them."

'Evil Hal' pried at Hal's self doubts and attempted to keep Hal from deciding to talk to his father upon his return. However, Tom's plane goes down under Espheni fire at the end of the episode.

Stills from the upcoming "Search and Recovery" show Hal as he travels with Captain Weaver (Will Patton). Assuming he is reunited with his father, perhaps he will get a chance in this episode to explain his situation.
