Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are spending time apart after a reported dispute over his recent birthday celebration in Los Angeles.

According to a new report, Gomez returned to her hometown in Texas earlier this week for some quality time with friends and family amid reports claiming her romance with Bieber may soon come to an end.

"Selena went to Texas for the weekend to be with her family. She's on a break with Justin partly because of family pressure but also because of some issues surrounding his birthday," a source explained to E! News on March 13.

As the insider alleged, Gomez hoped to celebrate her boyfriend's birthday with a quiet celebration between the two of them. However, Bieber preferred to celebrate his big day in a major way and include a number of his friends from church.

In turn, the couple reportedly engaged in a heated dispute and things between them didn't end well. In fact, when Bieber went through with his birthday plans earlier this month, Gomez was nowhere to be seen.

The E! News insider revealed that instead of a private celebration with his girlfriend, Bieber enjoyed a lunch date with friends in West Hollywood, California, followed by a visit to a go-kart raceway. That said, he and Bieber are still in touch with one another. The break that they are reportedly on is likely "not the end" of their relationship.

Although Bieber and Gomez are allegedly trying to make their romance work this time around, a second insider told the outlet that they've been feeling overwhelmed in the months since they reconciled as a couple. This is due to the fact that their relationship is so public.

"They will absolutely get back together and they are not over, but they both need some time away from each other," the source said.

Before rekindling her romance with Bieber in 2017, Gomez was involved in a 10-month romance with The Weeknd. As for Bieber, he was single for some time following brief relationships with Kourtney Kardashian and Hailey Baldwin.

Gomez and Bieber have been spending time with one another publicly since October of last year and rang in the New Year with together in Mexico with friends. Since then, they've been seen out and about in Los Angeles and also traveled to Jamaica weeks ago for the wedding of Justin's father, Jeremy Bieber.
