Rapper Marshall Mathers III, mostly known for his stage name Eminem, opened up about his addiction to prescription drugs in the film How to Make Money Selling Drugs released this week at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

In the film, the rapper gave a shocking description of his addiction to prescription drugs such as Xanax and Valium, commonly used to treat panic and anxiety disorders, as he described an instance where if he hadn't made it to the emergency room, he would have died.

The rapper recalled a time when he was hospitalized after ingesting pills in excess.

"My organs were shutting down. My liver, kidneys, everything," Eminem said. "They were gonna have to put me on dialysis. They didn't think I was gonna make it. My bottom was gonna be death."

After his hospitalization, Eminem relapsed and he recalls

"I remember just walking around my house and thinking every day, 'Im gonna fu***** die.' like I'm looking at my kids and think I need to be here for this," Eminem described.

"I literally was up 24 hours a day for three weeks straight. And I mean not even nodding off for a fu**** minute."

About his current status he says:

"It's being a long process. I'm growing."

Eminem admitted that in the beginning, he blatantly denied to people around him that he was an addict.

"People tried to tell me that I had a problem," the rapper said in the film. "I would say 'Get that f***king person outta here. I'm not out there shooting heroin. I'm not f***king out there putting coke up my nose. I'm not smoking crack."

"I literally thought I could control it," he said.

The movie How to Make Money Selling Drugs utilizes stunning statistics about drug use in the United States and testimonies from celebrities such as Susan Sarandon and rapper 50 Cent, to give audiences a sense of the shocking reach of the drugs' trade in the country.
