Actor John Stamos has finally made his dreams of becoming a father come true. The 54-year-old welcomed a son with Caitlin McHugh.

The Best Part Of Them

The happy couple announced in a gushing Instagram post, which simultaneously confirmed that the baby has been named after Stamos's father.

"From now on, the best part of me will always be my wife and my son. Welcome Billy Stamos (named after my father)," Stamos captioned a photo of the newborn.

The Full House alum has been vocal in the past about his lifelong desire to be a father.

A Tribute To His Hero

In December, Stamos remembered his late dad in a heartfelt Instagram post, while writing about becoming a father himself.

"I will certainly fall short of the father my pop was, but - I'm going to give it my all!" he captioned an old photo of the two.

Stamos, whose parents both passed away, revealed previously to PEOPLE that, although he wished they were around to be part of the next chapter in his life, he knew they were watching over him.

The Fuller House star also admitted that he'd always seen his father as a hero, and the shine hadn't dulled in later life.

"Till the day he died, he was bigger than life to me," he gushed.

Finally The Right Time

Stamos married McHugh, 31, on Feb. 3, after dating for two and a half years. They tied the knot in a private, intimate ceremony surrounded by family and friends.

The couple confirmed the pregnancy in December. Stamos noted at the time that he thought he'd run out of time to be a parent.

"I always wanted to be a dad. Clearly I had to do some work on myself first. I have a youthful thing. ... People would say, 'You should have a child.' I was like, 'That ship has sailed,'" he admitted at the time.

Being The Fun Parent

As for what kind of dad he'll be, Stamos is pretty sure he's going to be the fun parent, given how much practice he's had on TV.

"I'll be a fun dad. I've been practicing for a long time. I've done every schtick you can do with a baby on TV ... I'll probably just do all that stuff," he joked.

McHugh, for her part, had no doubts about the kind of father her husband was going to be. At the time, she admitted that his ecstatic reaction to the news that they were expecting, sealed the deal for her.

She described it as the look of a man who wanted to be a father his whole life but thought the moment had passed. Thankfully, that didn't turn out to be the case, with the two welcoming their little bundle of joy on Sunday night.
