Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child is engaged. Her pastor boyfriend, Chad Johnson, proposed to the singer while on vacation in Pebble Beach, California in March.

Realization

Johnson got down on one knee and popped the question on March 21. He presented Williams with a stunning 5-carat rock from jeweler Denis Mahgerefteh. The engagement ring fetched for a hefty price of around $20,000, which Johnson saved for over a decade.

Williams and Johnson may have only been together for a year but the latter revealed that he had been saving for the ring for 11 years. The pro sports chaplain recalled a moment in his life that prompted him to save up for an engagement ring for a wife that he did not even have.

It reportedly happened during his 30th birthday. His friends came over to celebrate and it was after the party that got him thinking about his future. He thought that he did not want to remain single and alone. He decided to save up for a ring since he believed that his future wife was coming.

"The next day, I woke up alone. I was so lonely. I had a little pity party. My personal life was lacking so much, and I was living so single. So as a response to that moment, I opened up a ring account," Johnson tells People.

11-Year Wait

Every month, Johnson puts $150 into the ring account believing that he would one day meet his future wife. Every month he convinced himself that the money was for his wife. Johnson revealed that he even fought the urge to spend the amount he has saved in eight years on a brand new sports car. He held firm on his belief that his wife is coming and when he met Williams, he knew she was the one.

"When I had the moment that I knew Michelle was it, I was so excited to get that money and go buy that ring. There's so much in that ring. That's 11 years of my belief in my wife coming for me," Johnson adds.

The Destiny's Child member recalled that she wailed and wept when Johnson proposed. She also commended her fiancé for doing a good job in choosing the ring. She revealed that it looks identical to the ring that she fancied. She took it as a sign that God was leading her path into marriage.

Johnson, who turns 41 in July, met Williams at a spiritual retreat in March 2017. They only took their relationship public in July.
