Grey's Anatomy alum Katherine Heigl is sorry for a silly mistake she made while visiting a cemetery that landed her in hot water.

Taking Responsibility

The actress took allegedly disrespectful photos while visiting the grave of her loved ones in Buffalo, NY. She posed next to certain monuments and gravestones for goofy pictures, posting them to social media with funny captions.

The Suits star took to Instagram on Sunday to apologize for her behavior, which a number of commentators took issue with, in a of couple somber videos.

"I realized you guys are right and that was not appropriate and was disrespectful and I've taken it down," she admitted.

Heigl tried to explain that she was attempting to make light of a difficult situation and she didn't mean anything bad by it.

"It's kind of a heavy thing to go and visit my loved ones' graves and I decided to try to find some moments of levity and humor and didn't realize how inappropriate I was being. So I deeply apologize," she said.

The Suits star promised to be more considerate and thoughtful next time, before wishing those watching a good day and thanking them again for helping her realize her error.

Quality Family Time

Heigl's husband, country music singer Josh Kelley, also posted some similarly dodgy videos to his social media account, including one where he pretends to have a spirit walking next to him and another where Heigl is laughing while the two stroll through gravestones.

Heigl's brother, who died at just 16, and grandparents are buried in the ceremony in question.

The Grey's Anatomy alum has been spending time with her family in NY recently. She traveled for two hours from Toronto, where she's currently filming Suits, to Buffalo just last month with her three young children.

They enjoyed a royal wedding themed trip, taking in the ceremony itself live while eating scones and then heading to a glitzy dinner to act like real royals, by Heigl's description.

The actress was born in Washington, D.C. but spent most of her childhood in Connecticut. She left hit medical drama Grey's Anatomy in 2010 after six seasons to focus on movies.

Heigl has racked up credits including Knocked Up and 27 Dresses over the years. Suits marks her triumphant return to television following a couple of failed attempts to kick-start that side of her career.
