Prince Harry loves Prince Diana so much, and he will never forget what her late mother has done for her.

In the recently aired ITV documentary "Harry and Meghan: An African Journey," the Duke of Sussex opened up about his situation following the death of his mother. He was only 12 at the time, and now -- more than 20 years after -- he admitted that he still feels the pain from her sudden death.

The Duke of Sussex confessed that the fateful 1997 accident continues to be "a wound that festers."

"I think being part of this family, in this role, in this job, every single time I see a camera, every single time I hear a click, every single time I see a flash, it takes me straight back," the Prince admitted, via Today.

Princess Diana, a Loving Mother

Royal biographer and awar-winning journalist Angela Levin published a biography on the life of the Duke of Prince Harry titled "Harry: Conversations with the Prince." In the book, Levin explained how the Duke perceived Princess Diana.

"He told me that the most important thing she ever did for him was 'keep me safe,'" Levin said.

Levin called it as "one of many poignant moments" in his conversation with the royal, piercing straight through the heart of every child -- whether rich or poor.

"Children need parents who make them feel safe and give them the right environment in which to grow and flourish. They also need to feel they are accepted and loved for who they are," Levin explained.

Princess Diana had been known as a loving mother to Princes Harry and William. She wanted to let her sons live a normal life, giving them certain days of the week when they were released from their obligations as part of the royal family.

Richard Kay, one of Diana's closest friends, revealed last year that while she adored both of her kids, she knew that William "was marked from birth for special attention" for being destined to be the King. Kay claimed that due to this reason, Diana "poured more love and attention into Harry" to "compensate" for any special treatment given to her eldest son.

Diana often told Kay: "Charles and I worked so hard to ensure both boys receive equal amounts of our time and love, but others in the family seem to concentrate on William."

Prince Harry Now Protecting Meghan

Much like how his mother has been protective of him, Harry is showing the same love to his wife, Meghan Markle.

Earlier in October, the Prince made a statement tackling the harsh treatment of the British press to his wife, Meghan Markle. He pointed out the almost-identical scenario between what had happened to his mother before and what is currently happening to his wife today.

"I've seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person," Prince Harry said. "I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces."

Princess Diana died in a car crash while her driver was attempting to get away from paparazzi. The media was pressing her on various issues, largest of which was her tumultuous relationship with Prince Charles.
