Game on! Mark Wahlberg is now in final talks for Sony's "Uncharted," an upcoming movie adaptation of the hit video game.

Sony Pictures has been developing the movie adaptation for years. While it is a fact that big-screen adaptations of video games have a bad reputation in the Hollywood scene, fans are expectant of this particular movie.

Everyone has been looking forward to seeing "Spider-Man" star Tom Holland to star as the young Nathan Drake, the protagonist of the game who grows into a treasure hunter.

And now, another big name has gotten into the most awaited lineup.

Variety has exclusively reported that Wahlberg is now in for the final talks for  the upcoming movie. He will be portraying the role of Victor "Sully" Sullivan, an American treasure hunter, fortune seeker and businessman, who would soon be a friend, mentor, and father-figure to Holland's character.

It is interesting to note that Wahlberg was actually on board to play as Drake a few years ago when David O. Russell was first directing the adaptation. Now, as Sony opted to make the movie into an origin story, Wahlberg reportedly wanted to return to the movie in some capacity.

The "Uncharted" movie will be a prequel set before the events of the game series. The story will center around Drake's first adventures, and on how he first became close friends with Sully. If this film becomes a big hit, there is a chance that a franchise would eventually kick-off and more stories from the actual game would be adapted.

It has not been easy for Sony to keep the "Uncharted" adaptation on track. Not just one but five filmmakers left the project in the past nine years.

The latest director to leave the seat was Dan Trachtenberg, who just directed for the Sony TV pilot of "The Boys." It has been reported that the studio immediately worked to place a new filmmaker by the end of summer, what with the film's scheduled production early next year.

Lucky for the fans, the "Uncharted" has recently found its new, perfect director, and it is no other than the "Bumblebee" and "Kubo and The Two Strings" director Travis Knight.

The film is the first feature production between PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures. It was set up last year by producers Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. Charles Roveen and Alex Gartner are also in for the production through Atlas Entertainment, with Avi Arad and Ari Arad through Arad Productions.

The "Uncharted" game series began with "Uncharted; Drake's Fortune" in 2007. It was created by developer Naughty Dog and published by PlayStation. Since then, it has already sold more than 41 million copies.
