Woody Harrelson playing Haymitch Abernathy, Katniss's mentor, says he was skeptical to hopping onto Catching Fire.

When offered the role of Haymitch, Harrelson told Shortlist that director Gary Ross did not leave him an option.

"The director called me and he said, 'You've got to do this for me, I don't have a second choice."

But Harrelson is happy to say he has no regrets taking the role.

His role Haymitch Abernathy was the only living Hunger Games' victor from District 12, having survived the second Quarter Quell, before Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark won the 74th Hunger Games under his mentorship.

"Just one conversation made me throw the dice. That was it, and now I'm part of this incredible franchise," Harrelson reflected. The Hunger Games franchise has already ranked in over $400,000,000 in the box office domestically and the sequal is expected to raise revenue to new heights.

He said: ''When you're looking at [big movie] studios, they need to make money. They're giant corporations, so I understand that in getting something that is working, you stick with it," Harrelson said. Although he knows how successful a follow up movie would be, he still had his doubts.

''Most times, sequels aren't as good as the original and I hope that's not the case for 'The Hunger Games'. I haven't seen it, but if it as good, why not [make more]?''

The Hunger Games series has already surpassed the J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter saga as the best-selling books on Amazon.com, and Harrelson seems proud to be part of it.

"It's the first time I've been part of something that's a hit," the 51-year-old added.

Catching Fire is the second out of a four movie saga based off of Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games book series. Following in the style of Harry Potter and Twilight, the last book, Mockingjay, will be split into two movies. Catching Fire is planned to premiere November 22, 2013.
