Matt Damon is happy to not be Brad Pitt after he found out the World War Z actor was harassed by the paparazzi.

In a recent interview with EsquireDamon revealed Pitt was being jealous of him for being able to stay out of the tabloids.

"I remember telling [Brad] that I walk my kids to school, and his face just fell," Damon recalled. "He was very kind, but he was like, 'You bas***d.' Because he should be able to do that too. And he can't."

The star of the upcoming movie, Elysium, enjoyed being regarded as a boring, middle-aged married man. He said he has been able to avoid the paparazzi because he never gave them anything to talk about.

"If you can control the celebrity side of celebrity, then it's worth it," the 42-year-old star explained to the magazine. "I look at Brad and I have for years and when I'm with him, I see the intensity of that other side of it. And the paparazzi and the insane level of aggression they have and their willingness to break the law and invade his space. Well, I wonder about that trade."

Unlike Pitt and his wife Angelina Jolie, Damon said he made the right choice by getting married to someone who was not in the limelight.

"I got lucky. I fell in love with a civilian," Damon said. "Not an actress and not a famous actress at that. Because then the attention doesn't double, it grows exponentially. Because then suddenly everybody wants to be in your bedroom."

Damon co-stars with Jodie Foster in his newest movie, Elysium, a futuristic action movie. The movie is set in the year 2154, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth. In the movie, Damon takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds. It is expected to premiere August 9.
