After the massive success of The Bible miniseries on the History Channel, new details are emerging about the hotly anticipated sequel series.

Weeks after the announcement of a new sequel series called A.D.: Beyond the Bible to air on NBC, producer Mark Burnett revealed his intentions for the project going forward. Though the sequel series was though to be a one-off miniseries like The Bible, Burnett anticipates a lot of story to be told that will take longer than 12 episodes.

There is "no reason" why the series should not run for 10 years, Burnett told TV Guide Magazine, cited in a report published Tuesday.

"You've got parts of the Bible." Burnett said, discussing the source material they would be using for the new series. "Josephus was Jewish and wrote one of the most incredible historical documents [in the first century]. There's also great archeology and a lot of writing to mine."

He added that some of the storylines the new series would cover include the fall of Jerusalem, the Herods "vying for power" and the Romans' desire for peace.

"It was probably one of the bloodiest times in human history," Burnett admitted, describing the full timeline of events. "Just really, really scary."

Burnett said that he anticipates huge ratings for A.D.: Beyond the Bible and would like for NBC to air in on Sunday nights. "It could run in the same way as Game of Thrones," he explained. "12 hours year after year. I don't think for a minute that A.D. lasts for just a season."

As for when production will begin on the series, Burnett said that they will be filming "next year, back in Morocco." The series has already begun with the scriptwriting process, according to the magazine. It will be picking up in the days after the death of Jesus Christ and follow his disciples.

A.D.: Beyond the Bible does not have a premiere date yet.
