Alternative band Arcade Fire announced on Friday that they are releasing a new album on Oct. 29.

One of Arcade Fire's followers on Twitter inadvertently helped break the news when he tweeted to the band, "you're my favorite." Arcade Fire replied, "Thanks. Our new album will be out October 29th."

Included in the tweet were two new pictures: one of a dome on fire and another of the band seemingly covered in red paint.  It is unknown if the two images will be featured in any artwork for the new album, but the images seem to fit Arcade Fire's abstract style.

The images were also posted on the band's website on Friday with the caption "Archives de la Ville de Montréal."

Arcade Fire recorded the new album in March with producer James Murphy.  In a May interview with Rolling Stone, Murphy voiced his enthusiasm for what they were able to create.

"I think it's going to be a really great record, actually," he said. "I'm eager to see it come out."  He added that the quality of the songs they performed made his job as a producer much easier.

Few details have been released about the tracks that will be featured on the album, but Arcade Fire performed a few new songs in Dec. 2012, which fans described as "dance-y."

The band's fan club on Twitter @ArcadeFiretube tweeted about the new songs at the time and said there was heavy use of percussion on the tracks. They also tweeted that the songs may be rooted in mid-19th-century themes as well as U.S. African American history.

Arcade Fire's 2010 album, The Suburbs, was the last album the band released. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over 156,000 copies in its first week.  The record would go on to win the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2011, beating the likes of Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Lady Antebellum.
