When Castiel (Misha Collins) lost his grace at the end of season 8, there was much speculation as to the extent of the former angel's newfound humanity.

Well, viewers can put an end to the guessing game because it has been confirmed that Cas will be fully human at the start of season 9, according to TV Guide's Comic-Con Special.

"We find him in the woods as a human," Collins told the magazine. "We haven't seen Cas deal with mortality or a complete loss of powers like we are planning to do."

Fans saw a powerless Cas back in season 5's "The End" when Zachariah transported Dean to an alternate future. However, Collin's comments make it seem as if this new, human Cas will have a far deeper storyline than the one-off future Cas.

This uncharted characterization of Cas appears to give him a larger role in Supernatural, hence his promotion to series regular.

"One of the things you evaluate when you talk about bringing someone back in a big way is, whether there are new ways to be telling stories with this particular character," said executive producer Jeremy Carter, according to Zap2It. "And I can't tell you much, but I can absolutely, definitively say that with Castiel -- yes, there's a new way to tell his story."

Castiel, however, is not the only angel currently experiencing a demotion. Heaven's entire host is now walking the earth, with the exception of Metatron (Curtis Armstong).

"They're not happy about being earthbound, said executive producer Robert Singer, according to TV Guide. "They lost their wings, so while they have powers, they can't teleport."

Meanwhile, Carver points out that some of these angels may see their predicament as Castiel's fault and will probably be far from brotherly towards him.
