Following the release of Sharknado, the SyFy Channel has announced that there will be a sequel to the movie.

The press release, written by Executive Vice President Thomas Vitale, stated: "Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm-on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We'll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn't want our fans to worry they wouldn't get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year."

Even though the TV ratings were low, Sharknado, which premiered on July 11, managed to pull through and have its own tornado on social media.

According to the SyFy network, the thriller starring Tara Reid and Ian Ziering, brought in nearly 5,000 tweets per minute.

"I measure success by whether the audience enjoyed it," Sharknado screenwriter Thunder Levin said. "We're just trying to create entertainment here, so if people are happy and if they're having fun with it, then I'd say it's a success."

Lost co-creator, Damon Lindelof, had his own opinion to share about the movie that focuses on a tornado that sent sharks flying through the streets of L.A.

"The best thing about Sharknado's huge pop culture impact is that Tara Reid gets to look like a f------ genius for doing it," Lindelof tweeted the day after the premiere.

And will she be doing it again? Most likely yes!

"I'm just so glad that people saw the humor in it that I did ... because it's hilarious," Reid told TMZ. "This movie was so ridiculous, you know? Like it's almost so bad that it's good."

The sequel will center around sharks entering New York. While the tentative title is Sharknado 2, SyFy is asking fans to tweet ideas to @SyFymovies using the hashtag #Sharknado.
