LeBron James earned the Best Male Athlete again on July 17. The two-time NBA champion has won it every year since 2007. The only other athlete to earn that honor was Lance Armstrong, who won consecutively from 2003-2006.

Serena Williams took the prize for Best Female Tennis Player, which she has won every year since 2003.

The highlight of the night was when Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts won the Arthur Ashe Award. She earned the evening's top honor for the attention she brought to beat cancer and MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome). First Lady Michelle Obama made the announcement via video while Miami Heat NBA champion James presented the award to her. Roberts was also honored with an emotional tribute video narrated by Tom Cruise. When Roberts accepted her award, she thanked her family, friends, and fans for all of their support during her treatment:

"I didn't find that strength on my own - it's a quality that grew with every word of support," Roberts said from the podium while onstage.
