The show's viewership boosted 15 percent more than its previous summer average. The fourth season is also the most watched season since 2010.

"We're delighted to 'renew the blue' for fans and continue our partnership with ABC on a fifth season, a major feat for Canadian television," Barbara Williams, senior vice-president of content for Shaw Media said.

The fifth season will start production early 2014.

Meanwhile, in tonight's episode,  Poison Pill, 15 division rushes to an emergency response as news swirl that contaminated drugs has hit the streets. Andy and Marlo, who seem to be getting along well make an arrest that starts an all-out crisis when it's discovered that the drugs are contaminated with deadly bacteria.

Poison Pill will air tonight on ABC at 10 p.m.

The Rookie Blue cast includes Missy Peregrym , Gregory Smith, Charlotte Sullivan and Ben Bass.
