Panama is the favorite in the quarterfinal, according to Cuba's head coach Walter Benitez.

"For me, Panama is a favorite because the path they walked to get here has been much better than ours," Benitez said Friday, July 19, according to CONCACAF's website. "They are less tired, they've been able to shuffle some players. This can give them a bit of an advantage."

This is the fifth quarterfinal for Panama and the second for Cuba (Cuba last reached the quarterfinals in 2003 losing to the United States.) Panama has won the quarterfinals two times in the past, in 2005 and in 2011 to later be defeated by the United States in the semifinals both times.
Panama reached the Gold Cup 2013 quarterfinals after becoming the leader of Group A, while Cuba came at the top of Group C after defeating Belize.

Panama defeated Mexico in the first match of CONCACAF's Gold Cup Group A, then struggled to defeat Martinique 1-0 before drawing 0-0 with Canada.

Cuba lost to Costa Rica 3-0, was defeated by the United States 4-1 but in what many sports experts callled "a miracle," beat Belize 4-0 with a last minute score.
