The CW's Vampire Diaries sent a panel to San Diego's 2013 Comic-Con this weekend which included executive producer Julie Plec and actor Ian Somerhalder. The two were on hand to address the upcoming season, and boy did they whet the pallets of their fans while doing so.

One of the topics surely on the minds of TVP loyalists is the future of Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena's (Nina Dobrev) rekindled romance. When it comes to the characters in Mystic Falls, Somerhalder stated he didn't feel that anyone there gets to live "happily ever after," according to Buzz Sugar.

While the hunky actor wasn't very optimistic about relationships on the program, executive producer Julie Plec had a more positive take on the matter, saying they'll be "trying to keep them [Damon and Elena] happy for awhile in the midst of all the bad things that are trying to tear them apart."

Somerhalder went on to add that the Elena and Damon relationship is in "the honeymoon phase," and, "the interaction between him and Elena is really cute."

The CW's Vampire Diaries is scheduled to air its fifth season on Thursday, October 10. Its spin-off series, The Originals, will begin season 1 on Tuesday, October 15.
