NCIS: Los Angeles started production for season 5 on Monday and with the start of filming comes the first real glimpses of what is in store for the special projects team.

Aptly titled "Ascension," the season premiere appears to pick up where last spring's "Descent" left off.

Following the events of the finale, the NCIS team is scattered and in danger. Sam (LL Cool J) and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) have been captured by Siderov (Timothy V. Murphy) and are subsequently tortured for information about themselves and Sam's undercover wife, Michelle Hanna (Aunjanue Ellis). In the meantime, Michelle is at another location battling two of Siderov's agents while Kensi (Daniela Ruah) rushes to aid her. Back at the boatshed, Callen (Chris O'Donnell) realizes the cunning Marcel Janvier (Christopher Lambert) betrayed his team.

In "Ascension," Deeks and Kensi both seem to be alive and well. A photo posted by Ruah from the first day of shooting shows herself and Olsen, the later of which is looking rather beat up. With blood surrounding his mouth, this could be how Deek's looks in the aftermath of Siderov's dental work.

In another pic posted by Olsen, Kensi and Deeks are donning wetsuits and carrying surfboards as they head towards the ocean. Well it wouldn't be the first time the pair have dressed as surfers while undercover, it's unclear what the agents are investigating on the waterfront.

The episode is written by Frank Military and directed by Terrence O'Hara, according to a script photo uploaded by Olsen, and will air Sept. 24 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
