The ABC Family TV show Bunheads has officially been cancelled after one season.

The Huffington Post reports in a July 22 article that an ABC Family spokesperson said that though the show had a loyal fan base and talented cast, it just wasn't possible to bring the show back for a second season after taking extra time to try to make it possible.

The series was created by Gilmore Girls maker Amy Sherman-Palladino and starred Broadway star Sutton Foster.

Though the show's last episode aired in February, the network delayed making a decision on the fate of the ballet drama. Another ABC Family Show The Lying Game was also cancelled last week.

Many viewers are sad to see Bunheads go and believe it was refreshing compared to other hot shows right now.

"Bunheads is a relentlessly female show, more so than any other program on television, and therein lies many of its strengths," ThinkProgress' Alyssa Rosenberg wrote in a blog entry on March 20. "Where Girls, after the fight that fractured Marnie and Hannah's relationship in the first season, has moved its focus away from female friendships, the relationships between women are always primary in Bunheads."

ABC Family's most popular show Pretty Little Liars has been renewed for a fifth season and the networks new show Twisted had 1.6 million viewers in its series premiere. The network will also be airing a PLL spinoff Ravenswood in the fall, starring Tyler Blackburn who plays Caleb on the one-hour drama.
