Actress Kerry Washington gave her thoughts on season 3 of Scandal in a recent interview with TV Line and revealed the storyline that has her the most excited.

Discussing who she thinks ratted out to the press that Olive Pope is the president's mistress, the 36-year-old believes it is "too obvious" for Mellie to be the culprit. She added, "Mellie got [Fitz] back at the end, so I don't know why she would do that." Speaking about the premiere, Washington was skeptical that it will begin with Olivia and her dad still in the car, according to the Thursday report. She said, "I really love how the show plays with time and jumps all around, so I hope there's some of that."

One of the season 3 stories that has Washington the most excited involves getting details about Harrison's past.

"Shonda [Rhimes] has teased that we are going to get more back story on Harrison and when I heard that, I was jumping up and down in the hair-and-makeup trailer like, 'Yeah!' " she said.

Pope plays a "fixer" for clients with political problems and also stars as Fitz's mistress while the president is in office. Scandal actor Tony Goldwyn plays the Republican president on the show but revealed to Politico recently that he looked to two Democrats to get inspiration for his character.

"The two people that I spent the most time studying were [Barack] Obama and [Bill] Clinton," Goldwyn said. "They have qualities in their personalities that Fitz would have: mainly a kind of accessibility, a down-to-earth quality and a higher mission to connect with people."

Goldwyn also said that the ABC series has changed his view on Washington, D.C., adding, "I'm much more cognizant of the intensity, the pressure, relentless pressure, that our higher public officials are under."

The season 3 premiere of Scandal airs Thursday, Oct. 3, at 10|9 p.m. Central on ABC.
