Fantasy show Once Upon a Time has cast the role of Tinker Bell for season 3, premiering in the fall.

New Zealand actress Rose McIver has been cast to play the iconic fairy from the Peter Pan universe, according to a report Thursday by Entertainment Weekly. The Once Upon a Time Tinker Bell character will be in multiple episodes of season 3 as the main characters travel to Neverland to rescue Henry (Jared Gilmore).

McIver is a relatively unknown actress whose biggest role was in 2007's The Lovely Bones, in which she played the younger sister of Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan). She has also had guest roles on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Xena: Warrior Princess.

Once Upon a Time Producers Talk New Season at Comic-Con

This version of Tinker Bell will have a unique spin, executive producers Adam Horowtiz and Edward Kitsis said at Comic-Con on July 20.

"How we introduce her and who she is [will] hopefully be surprising," Horowitz teased.

He also said that Tinker Bell will have a surprising connection with one of the main characters, adding that it will be not be Captain Hook since that would be too obvious. The producer narrowed the Tinker Bell connection down to Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), Mary Margaret Blanchard (Ginnifer Goodwin), Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle), Regina Mills (Lana Parrilla), Lacey (Emilie de Ravin), Neal Cassidy (Michael Raymond-James) or David Nolan (Josh Dallas).

Once Upon a Time producers are gradually filling up the newer cast for season 3 as the main characters transport from Storybrooke to Neverland. Enstars previously reported that Robbie Kay was cast as a member of The Lost Boys, the famous band of misfits from the Peter Pan stories. They are also looking to cast Peter Pan, but have not made an official announcement about who will play him.

Once Upon a Time returns for season 3 on Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
