Frank Ocean suffered a tear in his vocal cord while on the Australian leg of his tour, forcing him to cancel a series of upcoming tour dates.

The Australian & New Zealand Live Nation Facebook page posted a statement Friday explaining that Ocean was having difficulty singing in concert Thursday and was discovered to have a tear on his vocal cord.

"After last night's concert in Melbourne at Festival Hall, it was necessary to seek medical advice due to vocal issues Frank Ocean experienced during the show," the post read. "It has subsequently been confirmed that Frank has suffered a small tear to one of his vocal cords and has received medical advice that he must rest his voice."

The post went on to explain that Ocean would not be able to perform in the scheduled Australian cities Melbourne or Sydney on Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that Ocean was straining to sing his song Forrest Gump, having to clear his throat multiple times to hit the song's highest notes.

"I'm sick," he told the audience at one point. "I don't know if you care." He also closed the show without the usual encore performance.

The Facebook post said that Ocean would hopefully return to Australia for scheduled tour dates "as soon as is practical." The ticket promoter explained that they would be offering refunds to all of those who bought tickets to his upcoming shows.

The intensity of the tear is unknown at this time so the R&B singer may not perform at the upcoming Osheaga Music and Arts Festival in Canada on Aug. 3.

The singer is also scheduled to headline at Drake's OVO Fest in Toronto on Aug. 4, though his representatives said that they did not know if he would be able to perform there either.
