Rupert Grint, best known for playing awkward wizard Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, will make his stage debut in London as a gangster.

The L.A. Times reported July 26 that producers announced the same day that Grint will join the cast of Jez Butterworth's, Mojo.

The drama, that is set to open at London's West End later this year, takes place in a 1950's sketchy nightclub after the owner is viciously murdered. Grint will play Sweets, a thug with an amphetamine addiction.

Ian Rickson, who was responsible for the Mojo original 1995 production at the Royal Court Theatre, will direct this time around, the L.A. Times also reported.

Downton Abbey's Brendan Coyle co-stars in the revival, alongside Ben Whishaw and Daniel May's.

Following its onstage success, Mojo was brought to the big screen in 1997. Butterworth also wrote Jerusalem, which Mark Rylance won a Tony award in 2011 for lead actor in a play.

Grint's Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe has also found his way to the stage post-Hogwarts.

In the 2007 revival of Equus, Radcliffe bared all to portray his character Alan Strang and the star is currently appearing in The Cripple of Inishmaan, a West End production of Martin McDonagh's comedy.

Mojo will reportedly begin previews at the Harold Pinter Theatre in October.
