The son of the Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro said Monday his father belongs in prison for the rest of his life for holding three women captive in his home for nearly a decade.

In an interview on NBC's Today show, Anthony Castro added that he has nothing to say to his father and will not visit him in prison. He told co-host Savannah Guthrie that life behind bars is "the best possible sentence" for his 53-year-old father.

Ariel Castro is expected to be sentenced Thursday. On July 26 he pleaded guilty to 937 counts, including kidnap and rape charges, in a deal that will send him to prison for life plus 1,000 years without chance of parole. He is charged in the case circulating about the abduction of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michele Knight.

"I think that if he really can't control his impulses and he really doesn't have any value for human life, the way this case has shown, then behind bars is where he belongs for the rest of his life," Anthony said about his father. "He's been lying to his family for the past 10, 11 years at every possible turn. I have no trust in him. I can't see myself going to visit him and giving him the opportunity to face me and lie to me again. I have nothing to say to him."

Anthony was shocked by the severity of the crime and said he could not believe anybody could do such a thing, especially a member of his family. He also described a violent streak he saw in his father since childhood. Anthony said he grew up in a house "with a lot of fear and violence," but that his father "wasn't a monster 24/7." However, Anthony added, "if you crossed him, there would be consequences and those, more often than not, would be physical consequences."

He said as a child he would cry himself to sleep "because my legs were covered with welts from belts - and seeing my mom getting beat up in our own home.

"No one should have to see their mom crumpled up in a corner on the floor, the way I did so many times," he said.

Ariel's charges include two counts of aggravated murder related to claims that he physically abused and starved one of his victims until she miscarried. He also impregnated Berry during her captivity and she gave birth in his home to a daughter named Jocelyn. The three women were rescued in May when Berry managed to break out part of a door to Castro's home and call to neighbors for help.

Anthony said his father's prison sentence will be justice for his mother, who has since passed away.

"The first morning he wakes up on prison, and the sun shines down, that's going to be her justice," he said.
