Queen Elizabeth puts monarchy first before her, and she continues to work harder with the help of her immediate heirs.

For two years, Queen Elizabeth tried hard to avoid contracting COVID-19. But on Feb. 20, Buckingham Palace revealed that she tested positive for the virus.

Despite that, she is still working and leaning toward her immediate heirs now that Prince Philip is no longer there for her.

Royal historian Robert Lacey revealed to PEOPLE that Her Majesty remains in regular contact with Prince Charles and Prince William to ensure that her royal duties can still be fulfilled. The constant communication also allows both heirs to move up and conquer the spotlight as future Kings.

"They operate together - not as equals because the Queen remains in charge - but William is a very active component in the way the monarchy protects itself," Lacey said.

Aside from relying on Prince Charles and Prince William, the Queen notably entrusted the monarchy's future to Camilla, who she wishes to be known as Queen Consort once the Prince of Wales succeeds the throne.

Queen Elizabeth II Needs More Support Amid Trying Time

The new revelation came after a royal insider revealed that the Queen has been dealing with pain privately due to the issues that bombarded the monarchy.

A royal insider told PEOPLE that the recent problems are going to take a toll on Queen Elizabeth. For what it's worth, she has been stunned with Prince Andrew's issue with Virginia Giuffre, a probe into Prince Charles' charity due to the cash-for-honors allegation, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's continuous attacks against the royal family members.

"It's a drip-feed of negativity for the monarchy. I've not known such a tumultuous time as this. It just feels to be one thing after another for the Queen. It's going to take a toll," the source said.

The same insider added that things are now worse since the Queen feels lonely and alone at the same time following Prince Philip's death. The Duke of Edinburgh passed away in April 2021.

For now, she remains stronger than ever as she continues to receive medical attention after experiencing mild cold-like symptoms due to COVID-19. She also carries out light duties while making a full recovery.
