While it's now common Vampire Diaries' knowledge that the TV series will be jumping ahead a couple months to kick off season 5, fans will reportedly be getting a glance at the past in the third episode.

According to TVLine, TVD executive producer Caroline Dries stated that the respective flashback is "a decade we haven't seen before. It's going to be very good."

The third installment is said to be introducing an ex-girlfriend from Stefan's (Paul Wesley) distant past named Tessa, and SpoilerTV reported that she's a "nobleman's daughter."

The respective information on the flashback seemingly indicates that the audience will be turning back the clock in terms of the Salvatore's history, which may send them to a foreign land, according to Wet Paint.

The site also stated that Tessa will locate both Stefan and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) in Mystic Falls and obtain a daylight ring.

The CW's Vampire Diaries is scheduled to air its fifth season on Thursday, October 10. Its spin-off series, The Originals, will start season 1 on Tuesday, October 15.
