Scandal season 3 actress Kerry Washington received the No. 1 spot on Vanity Fair's 2013 International Best Dressed list.

Washington, who graced the cover of the magazine's August issue, got married recently in a secret ceremony to football player Nnamdi Asomugha. She also received a lead actress Emmy nomination, becoming the first black star to do so in two decades. The 36-year-old actress told the magazine "one of the most profound things for me about the show is the number of white women of all ages who come up to me and say, 'I want to be Olivia Pope.' "

"The fact that white women can see this woman of color as an inspirational character is revolutionary, I think, in the medium of television," she added.

The magazine said the highlight of Washington's 2013 fashion was the Miu Miu gown worn at the Vanity Fair Oscar party.

Others to make the Best Dressed list include Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, who gave birth on July 22 to her first child with Prince William named George Alexander Louis. She landed on the list for the fourth year in a row. She is also not to only royal on the 2013 list, sharing the spotlight with H.R.H. Princess Letizia of Asturias and Princess Madeleine of Sweden.

The list is not limited to women and also includes basketball player LeBron James, and singers Justin Timberlake and Keith Richards. Timberlake collaborated with Tom Ford to create a series of tailored pieces featured on his album artwork for Suit & Tie and the singer has sported the designer many times throughout the year. One notable ensemble was Timberlake's Tom Ford tuxedo worn at the 55th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Couples to make the list include Gisele Budchen and Tom Brady. Hollywood's designers such as Victoria Beckham, Tory Burch and J. Crew's Jenna Lyons also made the magazine's list, and Peng Liyuan, the wife of the Chinese President Xi Jinping, made her debut this year.
