Vampire Diaries standout Ian Somerhalder apparently isn't taking the news too well that he's supposedly out of contention for the role of Christian Grey in the film adaptation of E.L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey books.

The 34-year-old was recently seen leaving LAX airport when he was approached by the paparazzi, who queried him about who should play the S&M-crazed CEO.

Somerhalder gave the following response:

"I don't know, you tell me," he said.

The actor, who didn't look too thrilled with the Fifty Shades questions, later joked that he thought Jim Carrey should be cast.

According to HNGN, the parts of Grey and Anastasia Steele are "extremely coveted roles. It's been said that whoever lands the parts will definitely be bumped up to 'A' list celebrities," which makes surely makes it understandable that Somerhalder may not be pleased.

Fifty Shades screenwriter Kelly Marcel, who's currently in the process of refining the script, said that she would be sticking to the content of James' books with lots of sex and raunchiness. Only time will truly tell who ultimately will become the next Grey.
