The CW's Vampire Diaries is currently gearing up for its fifth season premiere, which won't be kicking off until the fall.

After four years of human murders, Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) finds himself in a rather vulnerable and lonely position, as he's lost his sister, girlfriend and even ex-significant other to vampires. To top it off, he's even lost friends to magic, a werewolf curse and a hunter's mark.

Matt's respective predicament has Wet Paint speculating whether or not he has a shot at remaining human in the upcoming episodes, giving that he's the only one of his kind in Mystic Falls.

When the fifth season of the program makes its return, Matt will have already made the trek around the world with Rebekah (Claire Holt), who is an Original vampire. Being that she misses being human, there's a strong chance that he'll want to continue to remain one more than before, stated the site.

The CW's Vampire Diaries is scheduled to air its fifth season on Thursday, October 10. Its spin-off series, The Originals, will start season 1 on Tuesday, October 15.
