NCIS: Los Angeles fans are going to get an extra helping of Deeks (Eric Christain Olsen) during season 5.

It's well known that all of the LA based agents have dark secrets from their past, including the decidedly easy-going Deeks. However, the LAPD Detective has not been forthcoming with information about his younger years. The new season will see a departure from this continued silence.

"You're going to meet his mom and get into his past," Olsen said, according to TV Line. "We already know a little about the dysfunctional and catastrophic relationship with his father, but we're going to find out a lot more about what makes this guy tick and how it affects, obviously, the relationship with Kensi [Daniela Ruah] and his inability to make that work."

Past episodes have delved slightly into the jokester's childhood, particularly in the season 2 episode "Personal." As Deeks lays wounded in the hospital following a shooting, it is revealed that he has a contentious relationship with his alcoholic father, a problem that lead to the 11-year-old Deeks shooting his dad in self defense. Since Deeks has no contact with his family, Hetty (Linda Hunt) eventually puts herself down as his next of kin.

With Deeks already embroiled in a budding relationship with his partner and now this appearance of his mother, in appears that NCIS: Los Angeles will be substantially improving in the character's story line during season 5.
