The Mentalist fans have long been praying for the pairing of Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) and Agent Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and perhaps season 6 will do the trick.

Thrown together as co-workers, Lisbon and Jane have developed a strong relationship. In the season 5 finale "Re John's Rules," a visit to a psychic brought Lisbon's hidden feelings for Jane to the forefront when the psychic claims that the team leader is a "little in love" with her talented friend.

"Up until now, they've been tied by this professional dynamic and this mission they're on," said creator Bruno Heller, according to TV Line. "And that held their personal relationship in suspense. Once the Red John saga is done, how do they find a new way to relate to each other? The chemistry has always been there bubbling up. But he now has other priorities and other agendas and other pressures."

With Jane so wrapped up in his analysis of the Red John suspect list, will he even have time to think about anything else? Complicating the situation even further is the addition of a new female character in season 6.

"When you're as good a detective as Jane is, it's very hard to walk away even when you want to walk away," Heller teases, cryptically. "Some people won't let Jane walk away from what he's so good at. And our new female lead has something to do with that."

If The Mentalist does ultimately go off the air following the capture of Red John, perhaps the writers will tie up the Jane/Lisbon relationship as a gift to viewers.
