Fans continue to prepare for the return of The CW's hit TV series Vampire Diaries, which will be coming back in the fall.

Executive producer of the program, Julie Plec, recently took the opportunity to speak to Entertainment Weekly on July 30 about the obstacles that lay ahead for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena's (Nina Dobrev) rekindled romance at the start of season 5.

"The biggest hurdles in their relationship come from external sources, people, ideas, notions that are trying to say they're not supposed to be together. It's really going to be more about them fighting to prove that they should be together and it's okay," she said.

Plec also dished about the VD plans for Bonnie's (Kat Graham) character, whose friends won't be so keen to her death early on.

"The first couple of episodes Bonnie's not going to realize that she herself sacrificed her own life and the grief that comes attached with that," she added.
