With the release of the Disney+ Series Obi-Wan Kenobi, fans have been lighting up social media with praise - but the usual contingent of internet trolls and out-and-out racists have been putting a disgusting damper on the celebration.

Moses Ingram, the Black actress who plays Inquisitor Reva on the show, has been met with a slew of heinous DMs targeting her racially.

Ingram spoke out about the attacks on her Instagram account, saying:

"There's nothing anybody can do to stop this hate. I think the thing that bothers me is sort of this feeling that I just gotta shut up and take it. I just kinda gotta grin and bear it. And I'm not built like that."

A sad but true commentary on the ills of social media, though her strength in facing such vitriolic hate shows strength not many would be so inclined to have.

Also not "built like that," it would seem, is Ewan McGregor. The actor pulled no punches when addressing the issue in a Twitter video this week. The video begins with his praise for the show and his fellow actors before calling out the disgusting actions of these so-called Star Wars fans. The look on his face throughout is one of genuine sadness and betrayal brought on by these monstrous individuals,

"It seems that some of the fan base, from this influential fan base, have decided to attack Moses Ingram online and send her the most horrendous, racist DMs. And I heard some of them this morning and it just broke my heart.

"It just sickened me to my stomach to hear that this had been happening. We stand with Moses, we love Moses. And if you're sending her bullying messages, you're no Star Wars fan in my mind."

The Star Wars Twitter account also called out the hate speech.

It is a sad commentary on our times when the sheer act of appearing in a television show as a person of color, religion, or personal preference is met with such ignorance and it is always wonderful to see the true fans stand up against such foolish individuals.
