Director Todd Phillips and co-writer Scott Silver have been hard at work writing the sequel to Joker, which starred Joaquin Phoenix as the sad clown gone mad, and this time they have included his femme fatale side-kick Harley Quinn. Oh, and it's going to be a musical.

Joker: Folie à Deux (a mental condtion where two or more people are affected by the same disorder) is the official title of this melodic installment, but it gets weirder still. Lady Gaga is now in talks to star as the Brooklyn accented lunatic. According to The Hollywood Reporter exclusive about the film, Phoenix has not signed on yet, though Gaga is in talks as we speak.

Joker, made with a $60 million budget, was a big success at the box office by pulling in over $1 billion, while snapping Oscar gold for Best Picture, Screenplay, Actor, Music, and Cinematography. Even with the accolades and massive profits, there were some who found the film less than, given its offbeat take on the character. As it goes with so many films these days.

To make an early assumption about what the actual screenplay will entail, we can only speculate at this time given that details on the film have not been released as of yet. To guess, one might think, perhaps, Joker will meet Quinn in a mental institution where she is his therapist only to have her mind warped by the Clown Prince of Crime (which is her origin). More than likely the musical numbers will play out in his or both of their fractured minds, much the way, SPOILERS, Joker had made up relationships in his head in the first film.

This news leaves this future of the DCU up the the air. Not that Joker is cannon in the present timeline of films, though Enstarz did report about Phillips being eyed as the new creative behind future DC properties.

It's fun to speculate, but we will never know until contracts are signed and the greenlight is given. Enstarz will keep you posted on this story as it develops.
