Hugh Bonneville has said that it might be time to close the book on fan favortie show Downton Abbey.

All good things must come to an end. This is also true of television shows. However, in a world in which everything seems to be constantly rebooted in spun in every possible direction, it can be difficult to gauge when the right time to stop is. Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and reflected that it might just be time to say an official goodbye to Downton.

The film Downton Abbey: A New Era came out just a few short months ago. Without giving anything away, fans who saw the film could definitely feel a beautiful sense of closure. Yet, even with this final-moment feeling we were experiencing, people were still hearing whispers of a future for the historic show.

More recently, however, Bonneville said to to THR:

"I suspect, on a practical level, it's run its course now. I think that was a good time to quit. I don't know. I'm never gonna second guess the future, but did think for a while, actually, yeah, why not, let's keep going.

"But I do think it could get a bit thin. I think the second film was such a joyous one and such a good note on which to end the story. And it does feel like it can end. There's still open doors in it, but I think it might be the right time to stop."

It is impossible to know what will happen in the future until it does (or doesn't!) Regardless, it is important to know when to say goodbye.
