Casting rumors are continuing for who will play Batman in Man of Steel 2.

Man of Steel 2 has been confirmed to involved Batman vs. Superman, and with Henry Cavill already set to reprise his role as Superman, producers are looking to find a new Batman.

According to a report Saturday by The Hollywood Reporter, multiple sources are claiming Josh Brolin to be the frontrunner to play Batman/Bruce Wayne. The 46-year-old actor would fit the previous description of this version of Batman being in his 40s.

Ryan Gosling, who co-starred with Brolin in Gangster Squad, is said to be another leading contender to play the Caped Crusader. At 32, Gosling is the youngest contender in the current mix. Though Brolin and Gosling are said to be the top two choices, a studio source said that casting has not even begun yet, which would suggest that they could just be suggestions or rumors overheard.

Another actor allegedly on the list of contenders is Joe Manganiello, who plays werewolf Alcide on HBO's True Blood. He was supposedly on the short list to play Superman but his schedule with True Blood prevented him from taking on the role.

Other lesser known actors are in the mix to play Batman, including Matthew Goode, star of such romantic comedies as Leap Year and Chasing Liberty, British actor Richard Armitage, who played Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Max Martini, one of the stars of this summer's Pacific Rim.

Christian Bale, who played Batman in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises will not be returning to play the character in Man of Steel 2.

Very few spoilers have leaked out about the anticipated film, but it is scheduled to start production in early 2014 with a 2015 theater release date, suggesting that there may be new spoilers soon.
