Former Smallville star Justin Hartley stars in season 3 of Revenge as Victoria Grayson's long-lost son Patrick Harper, but his reunion with his mother is reportedly not something she looks forward to.

The actor joins the show's cast during the season premiere and it will be revealed that Patrick was paid $5 million by Victoria to stay away from the Hamptons, Las Vegas Informer reported Sunday. When the new season premieres, five months have taken place since the season two finale. Season 2 ended with Patrick showing up to Victoria's home in the Hamptons, though his face was never revealed to the camera. Victoria sports a shocked look on her face when she opens to door to see her son, whom she abandoned when she was a teenager.

Speaking at the ABC - TCA press event on Sunday, president Paul Lee promised a storyline in season 3 of the show that will be simpler than in past seasons. The new direction will begin with the premiere episode Fear, which Lee described as "fantastic."

"I think we stumbled a little bit in the second season, but Mike [Kelley] is one of the great showrunners. What Sunil Nayar [who replaces Kelley as Revenge's showrunner for season 3] is bringing to us is a slightly less complicated and a really interesting take," Lee added. "The first episode back -- I don't know how much we can reveal; we're not allowed to reveal anything -- is a fantastic episode starting with a magnificent hook. I do think you are going to see that one enjoying itself in its third season -- and we certainly are."

The new season will be broken up into two 11-episode blocks that will air without repeats and then take a break sometime around January/February.

Revenge season 3 premieres on ABC on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. PT. The episode will guest star Diogo Morgado (History Channel's The Bible) to play a distinguished and handsome doctor by the name of Dr. Jorge Velez, TV Line reported earlier in the month.
