Oprah Winfrey gave Lindsay Lohan an inspirational speech after she interviewed the troubled actress on her talk show.

Winfrey said she had an off-air chat with Lohan after they filmed the interview. The talk show host made the revelation to Access Hollywood while promoting her new film The Butler. Winfrey told the 27-year-old she wants her to succeed despite her tumultuous personal life.

"I had a real conversation with her afterwards, saying, 'Look, the reason why I'm doing this, obviously it's going to be on television, and obviously you chose to say yes, or wanted to do this for your reasons, obviously you want people to watch this, but in the end, it's about your life. I want you to win,'" Oprah said. "That's what I said to her in that interview, 'I want you to win.'"

Oprah also defended her choice to interview the Mean Girls star.

"All the people who take issue [and say,] 'Why are you [interviewing] her?' I think she's an interesting figure of our culture right now, " Oprah told Access. "I think that lots of people make mistakes in their lives. We, as human beings, I think, cannot stand in judgment of how many chances you get. I think the arc of trying to reorganize, reshape and rebuild your career and your life... it's a really interesting story, if you can pull that off."

Despite Winfrey's civility towards the New York City native, the media mogul still asked Lohan some difficult questions during their interview.

"Are you an addict?" Winfrey asked her. "What does it feel like to be both an adjective and a verb for child-star-gone-wrong?"

The interview will be featured on Winfrey's Next Chapter talk show on Aug. 18.
