What 'James Bond' Producers Are Looking For

According to a recent interview with Variety, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson shared their struggles in finding the next "James Bond" star. Barbara went on to detail that one of the biggest qualities they needed yet was hard to among potential actors: commitment.

"The thing is, it's going to be a couple of years off. And when we cast Bond, it's a 10-, 12-year commitment. So he's probably thinking, 'Do I really want that thing? Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it]." Barbara explained, to which Wilson added: "And he was in his early 30s at the time!"

Reinventing the Next 'James Bond'

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the producer duo shared their vision for the next "James Bond" star, expressing their plan to reinvent the infamous British spy's character.

"When people go, 'Oh, who are you going to get?' it's not just about casting an actor for a film. It's about a reinvention, and 'Where are we taking it? What do we want to do with the character?' And then, once we figure that out, who's the right person for that particular reinvention?" Producer Broccoli expressed. "It's an evolution. Bond is evolving just as men are evolving. I don't know who's evolving at a faster pace."

The latest and 25th film, "James Bond: No Time to Die" grossed more than $700 million worldwide for its 2021 release during the pandemic, and is recognized as the highest-grossing film at the UK box office.
