Speculation over the role of Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey continues to heat up.

One of the names that hasn't been brought up too often, but who may have the look and background necessary to pull of the part is Shameless' Emmy Rossum.

According to Marie Claire, the 26-year-old "brings an innocent beauty with a gritty underside," and "she's also had her share of real-life heartbreak in the public eye, after divorcing her husband aged 23."

Back in April, Rossum had actually spoken in the Katie green room about the prospect of playing Steele

"People tweet this to me a bunch. Um, I haven't read the whole book. I started it and then it got really racy and I had to put it down. Cause I was really overwhelmed. And I was like, I have my imagination for this kind of thing," she said.

Fifty Shades screenwriter Kelly Marcel, who's currently in the process of refining the script, said that she would be sticking to the content of James' books with lots of sex and raunchiness. Only time will truly tell who ultimately will become the next Grey.
