Though filming for season 4 of Game of Thrones only started recently, one of the show's actors is already praising the new season as the best thus far in the series.

Kit Harington, who plays fan favorite Jon Snow, talked to Access Hollywood recently about the new season.

"I'm always--in a very pessimistic way--waiting for them to drop the ball, and then we got [the scripts for] Season 4 through after what I thought was a very impressive Season 3 -- and it's brilliant. It's my favorite so far," Harington told Access Hollywood. "I've got a lot to do this season."

Though he was relatively tight-lipped about what his character would be doing in season 4, he did discuss the direction of the new season.

"There's a hell of a lot of fight scenes. There's a lot of blood, there's a lot of gore," he revealed. "It's more action packed than any season we've done so far, so it's gonna be a test to see if we can get it done."

As for the ever-expanding cast of characters, season 4 will feature another significant character: Mace Tyrell, father to Margaery (Natalie Dormer) and Ser Loras (Finn Jones).

George R. R. Martin, who wrote the books the series is based on, revealed on his blog recently that British character actor Roger Ashton-Griffiths (Gangs of New York, A Knight's Tale) has been cast as Mace Tyrell. The character is the son of Lady Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg).

Season 4 of Game of Thrones will premiere in Spring 2014 on HBO.
