The new G2 Smartphone by LG was unveiled at a New York City press event Wednesday morning.

While it may look like an ordinary touch-screen smartphone, its features make it stand out amongst the crowd of competitors. One of the newest additions is the volume and power controls, which are located on the back of the ultra-slim phone rather than the side.

"For too long we have been blaming fingers for smartphone drops that were simply not their fault," James Fishler, LG Electronics' senior vice president for marketing, said. "It sounds so simple but is a big design enhancement."

Also on the back of the phone is the 13-megapixel camera that has optical image stabilization and is supposed to reduce the blur when capturing moving images and minimize shaking.

On the front, LG claims G2 has the largest screen size compared to other phones. The 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p IPS display screen promises "true-to-nature colors, sharp text, high-definition details, and a cinema-like 16:9 aspect ratio."

Another new feature the South Korean manufacturer added is that you can easily pick up the phone to answer a call without having to touch any buttons beforehand. The volume automatically decreases once it reaches your ear.

The added 2.26 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Quad-Core Processor also has some benefits. It "provides a seamless experience for users who like to run multiple apps at once, quickly browse the web at 4G, or enjoy smooth rendering of graphics," as indicated on LG's website.

The phone comes with a 3,000 mAh SiO+ battery that is enhanced with Silicon Oxide Plus technology, which supposedly makes it last 24 hours. LG's G2 also includes a premium quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 32 GB of internal storage.

"Created just for you, the LG G2 phone makes it easier than ever to get connected...G2 is our fastest, most powerful and most beautiful phone yet. In fact, we think it's perfect, just as it is," LG's site states.

The device will be available starting in the fall and will be sold through all major U.S. carriers. Pricing has not been announced. However, prospective buyers can receive the latest pre-launch news by signing up here

"LG is not a small company without resources...If they can adequately fund a good advertising campaign, they should be able to compete," analyst Avi Greengart of Current Analysis said about its competitors."But it's an incredibly competitive segment."
