The world's leading entertainment service with over 247 million paid subscribers will bring a new Netflix-exclusive anime series from Skydance, Production I.G and filmmaker-writer Mattson Tomlin soon.

"Terminator: The Anime Series" will take viewers back to August 1997, when Skynet's Artificial Intelligence (AI) first became self-aware and turned against humans.

Netflix announced the anime series of the long-running "Terminator" franchise on Sunday in time for "Geeked Week '23" with a very brief teaser.

According to the official synopsis obtained by Variety, "Terminator: The Anime Series" will follow a soldier who gets sent back in time to protect Malcom Lee, a scientist working to launch a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet's impending attack on humanity. Based on the synopsis, the cyborg soldier is a "she" and not male like what the original "Terminator" films had.

"As Malcolm navigates the moral complexities of his creation, he is hunted by an unrelenting assassin from the future which forever alters the fate of his three children," added the synopsis.

The first animated project of the "Terminator" franchise will have Mattson Tomlin as its showrunner, executive producer and director. Skydance Entertainment and the Japanese animation studio Production I.G will work on the anime series as well.

"Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart. I'm honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach 'Terminator' in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts," Tomlin said.

The female cyborg will reportedly take the place of the classic T-800 cyborg Arnold Schwarzenneger first played in James Cameron's 1984 film "The Terminator," the beginning of the series.

Netflix has yet to reveal the other details about its upcoming show, "Terminator: The Anime Series."

Meanwhile, fans shared their excitement about its future release by commenting on the official announcement video uploaded on Netflix's YouTube channel.

"'Terminator' 1 and 2 are two of my favorite movies of all time. Seeing this announcement gives me excitement beyond measure," one user commented.

"Now this is the way to go with 'Terminator.' Netflix is killing it. Damn," a second user wrote. A third netizen stated, "If it's a Japanese anime, it's going to be good for sure!"

Some fans' anticipation was hyped up even more after seeing that Production I.G - the Japanese animation studio and production enterprise behind "Ghost In The Shell" - will be working on the upcoming "Terminator" series.

"A 'Terminator' anime series with Production I.G. involved? I'm very interested to hear more about this project soon," wrote one user. A second user said, "'There is no fate, but what we make for ourselves...' Yes! I am so excited for the 'Terminator' anime with Production I.G!"

"Oh my goodness! Production I.G! The studio that made 'Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex.' This is quite literally the top production house I would want to see make a 'Terminator' anime. [I'm] stoked to give it a watch!" wrote a third user.

"So much potential... [I] will wait for this!" another commented.
