Someone close to the CSI team won't live past the season 14 premiere.

When the CBS dram returns this September, the Las Vegas team will be hard on the heels of the Dante's Inferno killer and embroiled in a frantic search for Morgan (Elisabeth Harnois) and Jim Brass's (Paul Guifoyal) daughter Ellie (Teal Redmann). The season's first episode, "The Devil and D.B. Russell," will open during a funeral, with most of the CSI team paying their respects to the fallen.

"A person close to the CSI family will die," said Don McGill, CSI executive producer, according to TV Guide. "The first image of the premiere is a memorial service. If fans look closely, they will notice some faces missing. So the question is: Who's in the casket?"

The CSI Writers' Room previously posted a description of the episode's cold opening. Special attention is paid to Russell (Ted Danson) during the scene as he seems to be taking the death extremely hard, struggling with his emotions.

"[Russell] in crisis by the end; he feels responsible," McGill said, according to the TV Guide. "The decisions he made, he really will have to pay for. We'll see as the season progresses that there may be some questioning of his purpose."

While fans anxiously wait to see who the series is killing off, actress Harnois isn't giving away any details as to her character's current state, telling Twitter followers that what ever happens is out of her hands.
