Years after Hilary Duff announced that the "Lizzie McGuire" reboot was no longer happening, one of the show's writers took to TikTok to spill the tea on what led to its cancellation.

Writer Jonathan Hurwitz revealed that the reboot was supposedly meant to show Lizzie's life while working and living as an interior designer and dating her handsome chef boyfriend, who would end up cheating on her with her best friend.

However, Hurwitz noted that the best friend involved in the infidelity was not Lizzie's childhood BFF Miranda.

Following Lizzie's discovery of her boyfriend's infidelity, Hurwitz shared that she would go back to her childhood home in California. While there, she would receive a text from her high school crush, Ethan Craft.

"Lizzie wakes up in Ethan's bed in his water polo t-shirt. And animated Lizzie pops up, and she has this little checklist -- like a to-do list -- and Ethan is on the list, and she checks it off," Hurwitz spilled.

"And I think, she says something like, 'Well, checked that box.' Dramatic pause. 'Twice,'" he continued.

The writer clarified that while the scene implies Lizzie and Ethan made love, the series would not have shown them having sex.

The "Lizzie McGuire" reboot was officially canceled in December 2020 because Disney was "against the more adult, mature direction" the show was going for.

At the time, Duff also took to Instagram to share her thoughts about the sad news and said, "I've been so honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life. She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself. To see the fans' loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me."

"I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work, but sadly and despite everyone's best efforts, it isn't going to happen," she continued.

"I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It's what the character deserves. We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures she would have taken with her."

"I'm very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn't align. Hey now, this is what [the] 2020s [are] made of," Duff concluded.
