Khaled had fans asking questions when he proposed to Minaj via an MTV News video in July.

"Nicki Minaj, I'm at MTV, I'm want to be honest with you, I love you, I like you, I want you, I want you to be mine," he told his YMCMB labelmate. "I'm here at MTV because it's a worldwide network and the only reason why I'm not telling you this face to face is because I understand that you are busy."

"We got the same symptoms, we're both suffering from success," he continued. "If you gotta take your time and think about it, I understand, but I know I have to be here today to let you know how serious I am and how serious this is to me."

Following the proposal, his friend and rapper Rick Ross told the Los Angeles radio station 106 FM that he believed the proposal was real.

"I know Khaled. That's been my brother. I know he's been infatuated with Nicki. I guess we all got to sit back and wait," he said.

During the show, the 37-year-old also viewed DJ Khaled's proposal for the first time. After seeing the video and the 10-carat engagement ring Khaled had for Minaj, Ross said he doesn't think it's a fluke.

"If you spend a half-a-million dollars, you're dead, dead serious," he said.

But, Minaj later revealed that the proposal was simply a joke.

"Khaled is my brother and Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal. Please let it go. He was kidding," she said during an interview with New York radio station Hot 97 in late July. "He's not attracted to me, he doesn't like me. We're brothers and sisters."
